Iliad Italia opens first 24-hour SIM card dispensing machine in Turin
Iliad Italia has further expanded its Italian distribution network by installing its first automatic SIM card dispensing machine that is open 24 hours a day, reports Mondo Mobile Web. The so-called ‘Simbox’ machine is located outside the operator’s own-brand store in Piazza Castello in Turin and can be used during the physical shop’s opening times with the help of qualified personnel and even after the store closes. A billboard next to the Simbox reads “Switch to Iliad whenever you want, even at night”, adding “This Simbox is active 24/7”.

Iliad currently has over 1,000 automatic ‘Simbox’ dispensing machines and in May announced that its 16 physical stores and 300-plus Iliad corners had been modified to meet new health protocols, with fittings designed to guarantee maximum safety for employees and users alike. New customers can now obtain a SIM card without any physical exchange of money, documentation or other type of contact via the Simbox dispensers.

The subsidiary of France's Iliad added 454,000 customers in the second quarter of 2020 to reach a total of 6.26 million, up from 3.8 million a year earlier and equivalent to around 8 percent of the Italian mobile market.
