
India ended October with 962.6 million telephony users, up by 5.02 million from September. The total comprises 935.35 million wireless subscribers, up by 5.14 million in the month, and 27.28 million wireline subscribers, down by 12,000 in the month. In October 2014, 3.04 million subscribers submitted requests for mobile number portability, according to figures from the Telecom Regularity Authority of India (Trai).
India’s mobile subscriber base climbed 0.55 percent to 935.35 million at end-October. Private operators hold 90.55 percent of the mobile market share (based on subscriber base), while state-owned companies BSNL and MTNL hold 9.45 percent market share.
India’s fixed-line subscriber base declined to 27.28 million in October from 27.41 million in September. The net reduction in India’s fixed-line subscriber base was 0.12 million at the decline rate of 0.45 percent. BSNL and MTNL hold a share of 76.06 percent of the fixed-line market.
The Indian broadband subscriber base increased to 79.21 million at 31 October from 75.7 million a month earlier. Top five ISPs in terms of market share (based on subscriber base) are BSNL (19.13 million), Bharti Airtel (17.31 million), Vodafone (14.15 million), Idea Cellular (11.48 million) and Reliance Communications (6.58 million).
