
India ended December with 970.9 million telephony users, up by 0.70 million from November. The total comprises 943.97 million wireless subscribers, up by 0.74 million in the month, and 27 million wireline subscribers, down by 14,000 in the month. In December 2014, 3.49 million subscribers submitted requests for mobile number portability, according to figures from the Telecom Regularity Authority of India (Trai).
India’s mobile subscriber base climbed 0.74 percent month-on-month to 943.97 million at end-December. Private operators hold 91.01 percent of the mobile market share (based on subscriber base), while state-owned companies BSNL and MTNL hold 8.99 percent market share.
India’s fixed-line subscriber base declined to 27 million in December from 27.14 million in November. The net reduction in India’s fixed-line subscriber base was 0.14 million at the decline rate of 0.53 percent. BSNL and MTNL hold a share of 75.76 percent of the fixed-line market.
The Indian broadband subscriber base increased to 85.74 million at 31 December from 82.22 million a month earlier. Top five ISPs in terms of market share (based on subscriber base) are Bharti Airtel (19.19 million), BSNL (18.90 million), Vodafone (16.65 million), Idea Cellular (12.95 million) and Reliance Communications (7.11 million).
