
India ended February with 1.188 billion telephone subscribers, up by more than 13.7 million from January. The total comprises 1.164 billion wireless subscribers, up by 13.75 million in the month, and 24.35 million fixed-line subscribers, slightly up by 3,000 in the month. In February, 5.67 million subscribers submitted requests for mobile number portability, according to figures from the Telecom Regularity Authority of India (Trai).
India’s mobile subscriber base increased by 1.19 percent month-on-month to 1.164 billion at end-February. Private operators held 91.19 percent of the mobile market share (based on subscriber base), while state-owned companies BSNL and MTNL held 8.81 percent market share.
India’s fixed-line subscriber base increased to 24.35 million in February from 24.34 million in the previous month. The net increase in India’s fixed-line subscriber base was 0.003 million at a monthly growth rate of 0.01 percent. BSNL and MTNL held a share of 70.29 percent of the fixed-line market.
The Indian broadband subscriber base increased to 261.31 million at end-February, from 253.75 million a month earlier. Top five ISPs in terms of market share (based on subscriber base) are Reliance Jio Infocom (102.84 million), Bharti Airtel (46.69 million), Vodafone (32.06 million), Idea Cellular (24.31 million), and BSNL (20.81 million).
