India becomes 2nd largest smartphone market, tops 152 mln units in 2019

India saw 152.5 million smartphone shipments in 2019, which represents a modest 8 percent increase year-on-year. India also became the second largest smartphone market in 2019 after China but was still ahead of the US, according to a report from the IDC. The overall mobile phone market saw annual shipments of 282.9 million units, which represents a decline of 12.3 percent year-on-year in 2019 due to fewer 4G feature phones.
