India to soon reach 500 mln smartphones - telecoms minister

India is expected to soon reach 500 million smartphones, said the country's telecom minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, cited by The Economic Times. "The government is connecting 2,50,000 gram panchayats with optical fibre and very soon India will be home to 500 million smartphones", Prasad said. The statement was made at the Mindmine Summit.
