Indotel wants zero internet tax in Dominican Republic

Friday 23 December 2016 | 11:13 CET | News
The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Indotel) has announced its backing for a bill currently being discussed in government that proposes cutting the tax on internet services to zero. In a statement, the regulator said the country currently has one of the highest taxation rates in the region at nearly 30 percent, only 2 percent of which is allocated to the development of the telecommunications sector. Indotel head Jose del Castillo Savinon said the measure would help to reduce the digital divide and boost the government's efforts to reach 70 percent internet penetration by 2020.
