Infineon gets advisor for possible mobile unit sale - report
German semiconductor manufacturer Infineon has appointed Morgan Stanley as advisor for a possible sale of its mobile chips division, according to the Financial Times Deutschland citing company and industry sources. During the past weeks, Infineon held preliminary talks with Intel about a possible sale as the FTD reported. Both manufacturers and the bank were not available for comment. Infineon's mobile chip division manufactures chips for Apple's iPhone and iPad devices and has become profitable following years of loss making, due to the success of these devices. The division seems to small to compete with larger manufacturers like Qualcomm, STMicroelectronics , Broadcom and Texas Instruments in the long run.
