Intel, Carnegie Mellon launch USD 4 bln video tech centre

Intel has teamed up with Pittsburgh-based Carnegie Mellon University to set up a three-year, USD 4.125 million research programme designed to improve online video performance. In a joint statement, the partners said the aim of the Intel Science and Technology Centre (ISTC) for Visual Cloud Systems is to accelerate large-scale development and adoption of cloud-based computing systems architecture to handle the rapidly increasing amount of video content generated by the Internet of Things (IoT) devices, including online cameras and drones, as well as by content creators and broadcasters.
