Intel announced that it will be partnering with NTT Docomo to test new 5G services at the next Olympic Games in 2020. At the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Korea, Intel and KT already delivered a broad-scale 5G network, including over 22 5G links at 10 sites delivering 3,800 TB of network capacity, the chipmaker announced.

At the next Olympics in Tokyo, Intel said it will provide 5G technologies supporting network infrastructure, connectivity and collaboration. Applications are expected to include 360-degree, 8K-video streams from Olympic venues and virtual reality powered by Intel True VR from consumer devices; smart city sensors and fully connected cars using the 5G network and the latest iteration of 5G communications for vehicles; and access to rich data and analytics for athletes via wearables, eHealth equipment and AR/VR simulations, all optimized over a 5G network.
