Intel targets low-end smartphones with new Atom processor

Intel is pushing ahead with its plans to conquer the mobile market, announcing a number of new products at CES in Las Vegas. The announcements included a new smartphone platform for emerging markets, details on a forthcoming 22nm quad-core SoC for tablets, and more Ultrabook devices for convertible notebook designs. The new smartphone platform, formerly called Lexington, is a low-power Atom processor for "value" Android devices, aimed at first-time smartphone buyers in emerging markets.
