Interdigital to sell 1,700 patents to Intel
Mobile licensing group InterDigital's subsidiaries have signed a definitive agreement to sell to Intel roughly 1,700 patents and patent applications for USD 375 million in cash. The agreement involves patents primarily related to 3G, LTE and 802.11 technologies. These patents will support Intel's investments in the mobile segment. The companies expect the transaction to be completed in third quarter, subject to customary closing conditions and any required regulatory approvals.

InterDigital also announced a doubling in the size of its share buyback programme, to USD 200 million. After the sale, the company will still hold around 18,500 patents. InterDigital reiterated its target for USD 800 million in annual sales in 3-5 years, and said it will continue to look at additional patent sales as well as licensing.
