Internet industry opposes extension of EU telecom rules

The CCIA, a lobby group for the internet industry, has expressed disappointment with the European Commission's proposal to extend some telecom regulations to online service providers. The CCIA, which includes members such as Amazon, Google, Netflix and Facebook, said the proposed reform of the EU's telecoms rules "appears to contradict some of the previous goals of the Digital Single Market plan". Online communications services give consumers new ways to communicate for free or at low cost, and such services are "the embodiment of the digital single market", the group said in a statement. As
