Some German industry leaders see the Internet of Things (IoT) as the fourth industrial revolution, reports McKinsey. The IoT is made up of sensors and actuators embedded in physical objects and linked through wired and wireless networks via IP. The physical world is becoming a type of information system. From a manufacturing point of view, the IoT is the biggest thing since the start of IT and automation technology, in the line of the conveyor belt and steam engine.
