Iran launches weather satellite amid Western military fears

The Iranian government has launched what it calls a weather satellite but which the West fears could be used for military purposes instead, Deutsche Presse-Agenture (dpa) reported. Dpa cited the news agencies IRNA and Fars as saying the home-produced satellite, called "Navid'e Elm-o-Sanat" (good message of science and industry), went into orbit on the 33rd anniversary of the 1979 Islamic revolution. The 50 kilogram satellite will be stationed between 250 and 375 kilometres above the Earth, orbiting the planet fifteen times per day. Its official purpose is to collect data on weather
