Ireland starts procurement for national broadband network

Tuesday 22 December 2015 | 19:17 CET | News
Ireland has begun the formal procurement process for a EUR 300 million to EUR 500 million plan to ensure that the final 750,000 homes and businesses without broadband are connected with at least 30 Mbps service downstream and 6 Mbps upstream. So far, around EUR 275 million of state aid has been approved by Ireland and the EU. It will cover 96 percent of Ireland's national landmass, 100,000 km of roads, and about 750,000 premises and 1.8 million people. Silicon Republic writes that the project is seen by many in Europe as visionary and pioneering.
