Irish govt unable to agree on Apple tax ruling appeal

The Irish Government has been unable to reach agreement on a response to the EC's EUR 13 billion Apple tax ruling before the Cabinet meeting scheduled for 02 September, reports the Irish Times. The Fine Gael party and Taoiseach Enda Kenny have argued for an immediate decision to appeal the ruling, insisting that it was vital to take immediate steps to safeguard the State's reputation. However, Independent Ministers have refused to support an immediate appeal and have made several demands in exchange for support, including an early recall of parliament to debate the issue.
