Italian govt planning legislation to merge TIM-Open Fiber networks - report

Monday 12 November 2018 | 08:38 CET | News
The Italian government is in the process of preparing legislation that could prompt a merger of Telecom Italia's network with that of wholesale rival Open Fiber, according to unnamed sources cited by the Italian press and Reuters. The project aims to prevent duplication of fibre networks by spinning off the fixed network of Telecom Italia (TIM) and merging it with the infrastructure of state-backed Open Fiber, with one source suggesting the legislation could be an amendment to a draft law approved in September that still needs parliament's approval.
