The Italian government has approached Vivendi to seek the French company's support for its plan to create a national broadband network, reports Reuters, citing unnamed sources close to the negotiations. Vivendi, still the leading shareholder in Telecom Italia (TIM) via a 24 percent stake and the second highest shareholder in broadcaster Mediaset with 29 percent, recently complained to the EU about an Italian draft law that may limit its media holdings. The sources said the French media giant hinted it could oppose the government's single network plan if the draft bill were approved, prompting
