Italian PM says no power to act in Vivendi-Mediaset deal

Friday 30 December 2016 | 10:21 CET | News
The Italian government is not indifferent to Vivendi building a stake in the leading Italian commercial broadcaster Mediaset, but has no special powers to counteract the move, according to Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni. He said the Italian executive would be alert but only the relevant regulatory authorities could take action if needed, Reuters reports. "The government is aware that (Mediaset) operates in an important sector but it does not have and cannot activate any instrument," said Gentiloni.
