Italian watchdog bans short selling of Telecom Italia shares

Italian market watchdog Consob moved to ban the short selling of Telecom Italia shares on 07 July after the former incumbent operator lost 10.8 percent of its value the previous day to reach its lowest level since October 2013. The slump was triggered by the announcement of French telecom group Iliad that it was ready to enter the Italian market after signing an agreement to acquire the frequencies and infrastructure assets freed up by Wind and 3 Italia, the local subsidiaries of VimpelCom and CK Hutchison, if they gain antitrust approval to merge.
