Italian communications regulator Agcom has announced that the delivery and pick up service offered by Amazon subsidiaries throughout the country qualifies as a postal service and, as such, needs to comply with the corresponding national and EU rules governing such services. In a statement, the regulator said the company has been given 15 days to ensure that its logistics units  Amazon Italia Logistica and Amazon City Logistica are in compliance with rules on working conditions established under national and collective bargaining agreements corresponding to the postal sector, that it’s up to date with tax obligations for employees and that it has adopted a service charter for users.

Agcom added that the Amazon Locker pick up service offered in some Italian cities qualifies as a postal activity. The service was launched over a year ago in the northern regions of Lombardy, Piedmont and Veneto.
