Italy set to drop TIM-controlled single network plan - report

The government of Italian prime minister Mario Draghi has decided to drop a plan backed by its predecessor to set up a single national fibre-optic network controlled by Telecom Italia (TIM), according to unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg. The previous government of Giuseppe Conte was keen to create a national network called AccessCo by merging TIM's landline grid with the fixed network assets of wholesale provider Open Fiber. However, the Draghi government is keen to halt a project that would reverse two decades of deregulation, instead preferring to run competitive tenders in multiple areas
