Italy to investigate TIM's acquisition of BT Italia units

Tuesday 20 April 2021 | 10:50 CET | News
Italy's competition authority AGCM has launched a new investigation on antitrust grounds into the acquisition by Telecom Italia (TIM) of two BT business units in Italy serving the Public Administration (PA) and SME sectors. Following an initial assessment, the watchdog said it had decided to launch a probe to be concluded within 45 days into a transaction that would lead to the disappearance of BT or one of TIM's direct rivals in the offer of business services, prompting the possible creation or consolidation of a dominant position, thereby reducing competition in the marketplace.
