Italy to probe Telecom Italia, Vodafone bulk SMS practices

Thursday 17 November 2016 | 09:16 CET | News
Italy's anti-trust authority has announced the launch of two separate investigations into Telecom Italia (TIM) and Vodafone Italia on grounds of possible abuse of their dominant position in the bulk text message (SMS) market. The watchdog said it opened the probes after a company that uses the SMS services accused the operators of applying tariffs that didn't allow users of the services to cover costs. SMS messages are used by companies to send notifications to customers, above all to notify them that shipments have been sent out and received, and to communicate fraudulent banking activity.
