Italy's economy ministry backs independent broadband network - report

Italy's economy ministry has joined the country's industry ministry and backed a high-speed broadband network independent of Telecom Italia (TIM), according to an unnamed treasury source cited by Reuters. The network would be run by a new company that would grant equal access to all market players, said the source, adding that the state intends to retain a strong role in the unit while opening it to the participation of qualified institutional investors.
