Italy's RAI to bid for 2018 Champions rights - report

Monday 5 December 2016 | 08:38 CET | News
Italian public broadcaster RAI is preparing to bid for the rights to air Champions League football matches starting in the 2018 season, according to unnamed sources cited by Italian daily La Repubblica. The broadcaster intends to make up for the loss of Formula One motor racing to Sky by paying around EUR 40 million to offer one game per match day on free to air TV, with Sky paying EUR 60 million for all other games on pay-TV. The rights are due up for auction next year, with current rights holder Mediaset out of the running for the moment, according to the report.
