ITU conference rejects new article on freedom of speech

Delegates at the World Conference on International Telecommunications in Dubai have voted in support of freedom of expression as protected under the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, but rejected a proposal from Tunisia to incorporate the principle in ITU regulations. The WCIT-12 conference is being held to renegotiate the International Telecommunication Regulations (ITRs), a treaty that facilitates global interconnection and interoperability of communication services.
