ITU considers additional spectrum for Wi-Fi - report

WLAN is due to be allocated new, additional frequencies, according to documents by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) obtained by Wirtschaftswoche. Possible frequencies have been found, but not all of them are currently vacant. The reason for the new allocation is that mobile operators are planning to use the 5 GHz band for LTE services. Mobile companies claim the LTE-U technology can exist alongside Wi-Fi and other services in the band, but there are concerns in the Wi-Fi industry that not enough capacity is available.
