ITU says 51% of world population has internet access but affordability varies greatly

Tuesday 1 October 2019 | 15:20 CET | News
During 2019, internet access became available to 51 percent of the world's population, according to the "State of Broadband" report by the ITU's Broadband Commission. Looking at household penetration, the rate increases to 57.8 percent, but when fixed broadband is considered, it drops to 14 percent. The price of a 1 GB in South Asia costs the equivalent of 1.2 percent of the average monthly income, and in sub-Saharan Africa, it reaches 6.8 percent.
