ITU shifts focus to 'meaningful universal connectivity' as internet growth slows

Global growth in the percentage of households connected to the internet is stalling, having inched up just 1.7 percent year on year to 54.8 percent, according to a new study published by the International Telecommunication Union's Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development. The 'State of Broadband 2019: Broadband as Foundation for Sustainable Development' report revealed that household internet adoption in low-income countries improved by just 0.8 percent on average while data on individuals using the internet also indicated slowing global growth in 2018, as well as a slowing growth in
