Jamaica close to awarding third mobile licence

The Jamaican government is close to awarding a new licence for the provision of mobile telecommunications services in Jamaica, reports the Jamaica Observer, citing minister of science, technology, energy and mining Phillip Paulwell. The country currently has just two major mobile operators – Digicel, which acquired Claro Jamaica in 2011, and Cable & Wireless Communications, which operates under the Flow brand.
