Jamaica launches New Kingston smart city project

The Jamaican government has announced the launch of a project to convert the capital's New Kingston business district into a smart city, reports local daily the Jamaica Gleaner, citing Minister of Science, Energy and Technology Andrew Wheatley. "The smart city initiative will start right here in New Kingston," said Wheatley, adding that, in addition to Wi-Fi connectivity, the project would cover street lights, parking facilities, general communications and security. Utility provider Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) will be a leading partner for the project, among a number of other private
