Jamaica mulling 5G network build offer from Rivada - report

The Jamaican government is examining a proposal from US company Rivada Networks to roll out a 5G network at no cost in exchange for a share of the ultimate profits, reports local daily Jamaica Observer, citing US Ambassador to the country Donald Tapia. The proposal was submitted during the first term of prime minister Andrew Holness but the government has yet to reply to the offer from Rivada, which has helped the country respond to natural disasters in recent years.

Rivada Network is partly owned by veteran Republican strategist Karl Rove and previously headed a consortium that lost out on the tender to build Mexico’s wholesale shared network (Red Compartida) back in 2016.
