Japan looks to boost local chip production through subsidies - report

The government of Japan is setting up a plan to boost the domestic production of chips through subsidies, the Nikkei reported, adding that TSMC is expected to become the first recipient. Several hundreds of billion yen will be allocated under this year's government supplementary budget for Japan's Industrial Technology Development Organisation (NEDO), astate-run institution promoting research and development on energy and industrial technology. The government is expected to submit legislation to an extraordinary parliament session in December.
