Judge blocks new Mexican biometric mobile phone registry

A Mexican judge has provisionally blocked part of a federal telecommunications law that would require mobile phone users to provide their personal data for a biometric registry, according to a judicial filing seen by Reuters. The law was approved by the country's Senate last week, with lawmakers claiming it was essential to prevent criminals from remaining anonymous.
