Kazakhstan mobile operators Kcell and Beeline Kazakhstan have signed an agreement on sharing spectrum resources. This gives Beeline the right to share 2x5 MHz in the 1,725-1,730 MHz and 1,820-1,825 MHz range.
The agreement was reached in accordance with an order from the national competition watchdog, at the request of the national operator Kazakhtelecom, which is the controlling shareholder of Kcell. Under the terms of the order, Kazakhtelecom must open the spectrum to other operators that are not included in its group.
Kcell and Beeline's owner Kar-Tel earlier signed an agreement on network sharing in August 2016. The agreement was terminated in April 2019 following a change in control at Kcell after the acquisition by Kazakhtelecom of a 75 percent stake in Kcell.
