KDDI launches first Windows 7.5 phone
Fujitsu confirmed it will launch the first phone running Windows Phone 7.5, in Japan on 25 August. The Windows Phone IS12T smartphone will sell with KDDI and its unit Okinawa Cellular. Fujitsu said the phone is designed to be simple and easy-to-use, and comes equipped with fully integrated social media capabilities such as Facebook and Twitter, a video and audio player, and a variety of other entertainment applications. In addition, the IS12T comes with 32GB of built-in memory and a 13.2 megapixel camera. The smartphone, which features water-resistant (IPX5/8) and dust-resistant (IP5X) technology, provides users with full access to Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. In addition to coming in a range of neon colors, the IS12T comes with a new user interface, including the People Hub to centrally manage information about contacts without having to launch separate applications for the address book, e-mail, and social media. Other features include support for the Global Passport system to access both GSM and CDMA networks when roaming, the Internet Explorer 9 web browser, the Xbox Live service for games, and access to Microsoft's free Windows Live SkyDrive cloud service with up to 25GB of storage. Pre-installed apps include LinkCabinet, which enables the use of DLNA functions; Profile Exchange, an application for exchanging profiles using QR codes; Navitime for navigation; Gree for social networking functions; MSN News; Guru Nabi, which enables information on restaurants to be easily searched; jibe, an address book application the enables the full use of social networking sites and blog services; and E-Mail, which works with the e-mail services provided by mobile carriers.
