Kenyan mobile money transactions rise 10%, equal to 44% of GDP

Mobile money transactions reached KES 3.98 trillion in 2018, up by 10 percent or KES 346 billion from 2017, according to the latest statistics from the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). This translates to an average of KES 10.92 billion mobile cash transactions per day, equivalent to 44 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), assuming economic output of KES 9.09 trillion in 2018 as estimated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
