Korean regulator starts new subsidy probe

The Korea Communications Commission has begun another preliminary investigation into mobile subsidies, the JoongAng Daily writes. The regulator found that an abnormally high number of subscribers switched carriers since 17 May, the start of a holiday. The investigation follows earlier investigations which also led to temporarily banning SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus from signing up new customers as penalty for illegal subsidies. Subsidies are capped at KRW 270,000 per subscriber, but the operators allegedly provided more, mostly over the May long weekend, to win new customers.
