KPN allowed to drop Belgian channels for Play service

Friday 31 July 2015 | 13:34 CET | News
KPN has secured a waiver from the media regulator to omit certain must-carry channels from its upcoming OTT offer Play. It will not be required to carry the Belgian channel KetNet/Op12 or five Belgian public radio stations. KPN appealed the regulator's initial ruling on the must-carry channels for Play, saying it would be too expensive to go ahead with the Play launch if these channels had to be included. The higher cost of the service would reduce its appeal to the target group. KPN would also be at a disadvantage compared to other online video providers not required to provide the channels.
