KPN, banks to start NFC pilot in Leiden

KPN, ABN Amro, ING and Rabobank plan to launch a pilot in Leiden for NFC mobile payments, together with MasterCard. The pilot will this summer select 1000 consumers with a KPN subscription and an account with one of the three banks. The municipality of Leiden is supporting the trial. NFC cash systems will be installed in 50-80 shops and food businesses. The consumers will get a free smartphone app, which will allow them to spend up to EUR 25 per day without the need for any code. PIN authentication will be necessary for larger amounts. The banks say convenience for the customer and cash
