KPN CFO sees need for consolidation

The European telecom sector is "more than ever" ready for a round of consolidation, KPN CFO Erik Hageman told the Dutch paper Financieele Dagblad. Consolidation is logical, as it can create additional value, he said. KPN was last year in talks with Telefonica to merge their German subsidiaries. The talks failed, and Telefonica eventually listed O2 Germany on the stock market. Hageman said there are currently no talks between the two companies, but there are still savings to be had from working together on LTE roll-out. Integrating the E-Plus and O2 networks could save up to EUR 2 billion. A
