KPN to introduce mobile messaging service

Thursday 2 January 2014 | 08:52 CET | News
KPN is planning to launch its own mobile messaging service this year. The service will be based on RCS, the standard developed by the GSMA. The new service is expected to provide an answer to the growing popularity of IP messaging apps such as Whatsapp and Viber. Vodafone earlier launched its own RCS service called Vodafone+, which is compatible with RCS-based services from other providers. A spokesman for T-Mobile told Tweakers that the company will decide later this year whether to launch its own service. T-Mobile earlier launched the RCS service Joyn in Germany.
