KPN to upgrade copper network in Utrecht neighbourhoods next yr

Friday 15 December 2017 | 14:08 CET | News
KPN will be upgrading the copper network in various neighbourhoods in Utrecht over the course of next year. Using VDSL techniques such as pair bonding, vectoring and bonded vectoring, it is possible to deliver download speeds of up to 200 Mbps from the street cabinet. New street cabinets will be connected to the neighbourhood centres via fibre. In many cases, upgrading copper will be cheaper for KPN than constructing a fibre optic network. Although KPN has not completely stopped deploying fibre via its unit Reggefiber, growth has been slower.
