Kroes calls for telecoms passport to support single market

Neelie Kroes, European commissioner for the Digita Agenda, has proposed creating a "passport" for telecom operators that would allow them to operate across the EU after receiving regulatory clearance in just one country. Similar to EU systems in place for financial services and broadcasting, the passport system would make it easier for operators to expand to new countries and support the development of a single services market across the EU. Kroes announced the idea at a hearing in Brussels to gather feedback on plans to further develop the single market. She said earlier in an interview with
