KT confirms interest in Tunisie Telecom
South Korean operator KT is reviewing the purchase of a stake in state-owned operator Tunisie Telecom as part of an effort to expand overseas, reports Yonhap News Agency. KT said in a regulatory announcement that nothing has been decided yet, and it is also seeking to expand its presence in other African countries. 

Industry sources said the 35 percent stake in Tunisie Telecom put up for sale by Emirati International Telecomunications could be worth around USD 650 million. The sale has reportedly attracted interest from over a dozen foreign operators.  KT has previously looked at buying stakes in South Africa's Telkom and Maroc Telecom, and it's also active in rolling out infrastructure in Rwanda.

South Korean telecommunications provider KT recorded a lower net profit in the third quarter of KRW 136.3 billion, down 63 percent from KRW 369.8 billion a year earlier. EIT to conclude stake sales soon

Emirates International Telecommunications (EIT) could conclude the sale of stakes in two other telecom firms in the next few months, its CEO Deepak Padmanabhan said, as part of a strategy by state-linked companies to sell assets to repay the emirate's debt, Reuters reported. KT considers business tie-up with Maroc Telecom

Korean communications provider KT is considering a business tie-up with Maroc Telecom, although the company withdrew a bid for the operator earlier this year. KT announced in April it would not participate in bidding for a 53 percent stake in Maroc Telecom but said it would seek cooperation with the company. Last year, KT said it targets KRW 3.9 trillion in revenues from overseas businesses by 2015 and in order to meet that goal the company focusses on emerging markets.

KT's IPTV base hits 4.71 mln in September

South Korean communications carrier KT signed-up 1,000 broadband customers in September to bring its customer base to 8.04 million. The company also had 18.17 million telephony subscribers, down by 36,000. The total includes 14.71 million PSTN users, down by 58,000 in the month, and 3.46 million VoIP subscribers, up by 21,000. KT also said that it attracted 70,000 IPTV customers in September, bringing its total to 4.71 million.

KT, Docomo launch automatic Wi-Fi roaming service

South Korean communications carrier KT and Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo have soft-launched automatic Wi-Fi roaming services. The service will enable KT and NTT Docomo customers to use the two operators' Wi-Fi networks in Korea and Japan without having to enter a user ID and password to log on to the roaming Wi-Fi network. The company is trialling the service until year-end with 4,000 customers and will commercially launch the service at the beginning of next year.

South Korean communications provider KT will work with the Mongolian government to roll out LTE services, Mongolian news agency Montsame reports. KT already holds 40 percent of Mongolian Telecommunication Company since 1995 and the cabinet has now approved a cooperation between the ICT ministry, State Property Committee, and KT on the introduction of LTE wireless internet.

Tunisie Telecom stake attracts 13 bidders
