LatAm countries still short of ITU spectrum recommendations

Thursday 22 June 2017 | 11:10 CET | News
Latin American countries are still well short of meeting International Telecommunication Union (ITU) recommendations on the allocation of spectrum for optimal performance of 3G and 4G technologies, according to a report published by industry association 5G Americas. In March 2017 only one Latin American country, Brazil, had awarded more than 30 percent of the radio spectrum suggested by the ITU for the year 2020. The ITU said at least 35 percent of the 1960 MHz of radio spectrum should be available for mobile broadband to achieve basic levels of service quality.
