Latin American pay-TV to hit 94% digitalisation by 2022

The penetration of digital pay-TV in Latin America is set to rise from 85 percent of total TV subscribers in 2016 to 94 percent in 2022, according to a report from Dataxis. The growth is being driven by the popularity of direct-to-home (DTH) technology currently used by 50.8 percent of total subscribers in Latin America and forecasted to reach 51.5 percent in 2022. Digital cable, meanwhile, is set to rise from 68 percent to 85 percent of all cable subscribers over the same period, while IPTV is expected to increase from 2 percent of pay-TV subscribers to 6 percent in 2022.
