Lenovo in talks about possible smartphone JV

Lenovo said in a filing on the Hong Kong stock Exchange that it has entered preliminary negotiations with an unnamed company in relation to a possible joint venture in smartphones. The statement follows reports in the Japanese media that NEC was in talks to sell its mobile phone unit to Lenovo. Lenovo and NEC are already joint venture partners in PCs and tablets. Lenovo states that no material terms concerning the potential transaction have been agreed and that it has not entered into any definitive agreement regarding the potential transaction.
